Through the use of the Managed Operating Environment (MOE) the Standard Operating Environment (SOE) of a staff members PC is maintained and updated as application updates are released. The application used to achieve this is Microsoft's Systems Management Server (SMS). This uses a push technology to deliver updates to a PC. These updates may be for the operating system (Windows XP) or the application suites. Generally speaking an update to Microsoft applications is pushed out once per month. Other applications are updated as new updates are released.

SOPHOS anti virus is configured as a managed installation to ensure that virus definitions are maintained. An update server is maintained by ITS so that updates are provided automatically from a site local to UQ.

You may notice a pop up notification when software is being delivered.  This is perfectly normal and there is no need to be concerned.  Staff should try to accept all software updates and reboot when required.

IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STAFF TO ALLOW UPDATES TO APPLY AS NOTIFICATIONS OCCUR. GENERALLY SPEAKING MICROSOFT RELEASE UPDATES MONTHLY. OTHER APPLICATIONS ARE UPDATED AS UPDATED ARE RELEASED.

How to get help

Should a staff member have a support request this should be logged with the ITS Service Desk. Your call will be recorded and assigned an ITSM case number which will be emailed to you for future reference.  Your case will be prioritized and tracked to ensure SLA response times are met.  The helpdesk should always be the point of contact and staff should not contact computing support officers (CSO) directly.
