The University of Queensland Gatton Campus through its Vocational Education Centre (UQG-VEC) is offering comprehensive training in fourteen (14) units of competency for students to acquire the Certificate IV in Animal Control and Regulation.

This qualification is the industry qualification for persons undertaking animal control and regulatory functions. Animal control and regulation (also known as urban animal management) is a function provided by local and state/territory governments. It provides a community management service comprising four elements - regulation, education, information and infrastructure. It is highly recommended that whilst undertaking this qualification, the learner should have access to an animal control and regulation workplace through either paid employment or substantial periods of work placement or work experience blocks.

Qualification topics cover:
•  Pest Management and implementing action plans
•  Health, Safety and the Environment
•  Animal Care and Management including animal behaviour                                  
•  Promoting communities and liaison            
•  Relevant legislation and regulation requirements  
                                    
The training will be provided in three stages using the Accelerated Learning Pathway;
* Assessing skills and knowledge of participants through an RPL process (see RPL kit info)
* Training provided to address identified knowledge gaps through workshops
* Issuance of qualification.

Completion can be achieved based on the individual performance and recognition (RPL) of candidates.
The Gatton Vocational Centre will coordinate site visits to your workplace and on occasion participants may attend training at the University of Queensland, Gatton or a centralised location in regional/remote areas. 

Principal Instructors:

Mark Taylor:  Trainer and Assessor, UQG-VEC, University of Queensland.  Mark is an experienced vocational trainer in the fields of chemical application, IPM, Risk Management, Rural Operations and OHS.  Mark has travelled to North Queensland to conduct training in the field of Animal Control and Regulation.  Mark has both academic and vocational qualifications.

Shane Bannerman:  Shane is an experienced vocational trainer in the fields of engineering, fabrication, welding, and automotive mechanics who draws on 32 years experience as an A grade mechanic, welder, metal fabricator, and workshop manager. His subjects taught include tractors, welding and ATV as well as workshop repairs and maintenance.

Industry experience

To take part in this program you must be currently employed within this Industry. 
To enrol, candidates must also complete a G-VEC Enrolment Form and read and understand the Code of Conduct. The assessment requirements will be in the form of:
* question banks and undertaking of practical activities related to the various competencies
* work examples sighted during a site visit to your workplace
* a competent completion of assessment tasks during the gap training and/or within your workplace. 
* Various 3rd party references may also be sought from your employer and/or supervisor.
