HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - Certificate II in Rural Operations

RURAL OPERATIONS
A diverse way of developing students' vocational skills, Rural Operations links a number of fields including agriculture, horticulture and conservation and land management and engineering, as well as offering participants a hands-on approach to the learning and understanding of the safe operation of typical farm processes and machinery.
AHC21210 Certificate II in Rural Operations 

Based on the University Campus at Gatton, this course is aimed at High School students who wish to study as part of their year 11 and 12, and is.
It is designed so that students are not required to undertake significant levels of study outside of class time.
Study also features an induction at commencement and a capstone component at completion beyond those required under the necessary competencies. Throughout the programs students are engaged in three components of theory, skills and practical work.
Description
This qualification provides an occupational outcome for industries and agencies in rural and regional Australia.
Depending on the units selected individuals can be employed not only in rural industries but also other rural and regional sectors, such as local government, tourism, hospitality, transport, construction, community services, information technology and metals.

Pathways from the qualification
Further training pathways from this qualification include, but are not limited to, Certificate III in Agriculture, Certificate III in Production Horticulture, Certificate III in Horticulture and Queensland Certificate in Agriculture.
Entry requirements
It is recommended that students have completed Year 10.
Application
Application is made directly to the Gatton Campus using the Australian Agricultural College Corporation (AACC) enrolment form. Please contact UQG-VEC for further details.
Issuance of Certificate
This program is a joint initiative between UQ and AACC. Training will take place on the Gatton Campus by UQ and qualifications will be issued by AACC.
Units of Study
Completion of fifteen (15) units made up of two (2) core units and thirteen (13) elective units.

• Support horticultural production

• Follow basic chemical safety rules
• Support horticultural crop harvesting
• Undertake operational maintenance of machinery
• Treat weeds, plant pests, diseases and disorders
• Apply chemicals under supervision
• Perform routine manual metal arc welding
• Operate ride on vehicles
• Operate tractors
• Maintain livestock water supplies
• Care for health and welfare of livestock
• Handle livestock using basic techniques
• Carry out regular livestock observation
• Provide feed for livestock
• Support gardening work
