This bird hide was originally one of two Angora goat boxes (the other is at Lake Galletly). These were constructed for a research project and were no longer required. To preserve these buildings they were relocated and renovated on campus to provide a concealed viewing facility. This has served to recycle these two historical artefacts on the campus.

Some of the birds species which are seasonally seen on these lakes include Magpie Geese, Plumed Whistling Ducks, Pink-eared Ducks, Red-necked Avocets, Pelicans, Cormorants and Black-winged Stilts.

Significant wetland plants species in this community include Carex, Melaleucas, Casuarinas, Callistemons and Lomandras.
