Authentication
It is a requirement of the University and the State Government IS18 Best Practice Guidelines that all computers should require authentication to access the system.
UQ Sign-on
All authentications are verified against the University of Queensland central Windows Active Directory. Each staff member is assigned a UQ Sign-on username and password when they join UQ. This username is required to access your computer and the resources of the network.
Password
As the holder of a UQ Sign-on there are some inherent responsibilities that all users should abide:
- It is recommended that all passwords be alpha-numeric and a minimum of 8 characters in length.
- Changing of Passwords is not forced within the UQ environment however regular password changing is encouraged.
- Username and Password security is the responsibility of the holder.
- Passwords should not be given out to others.
- Passwords should not be written down in easily accessible places
To change a password go to the following web address: http://uqconnect.net/password
Login Script
At the time of login for all users a login script will run. The purpose of the login script is to map any drives that may be necessary for the user. For all users the following drive mappings will be assigned:
- H: - Home Drive
- G: - General Org unit share
- M: - All Staff share
How to get help
Should a staff member have a support request this should be logged with the ITS Service Desk. Your call will be recorded and assigned an ITSM case number which will be emailed to you for future reference. Your case will be prioritized and tracked to ensure SLA response times are met. The helpdesk should always be the point of contact and staff should not contact computing support officers (CSO) directly.
