- No term was more at the center of conceptualizations of power and politics in “critical” theories of communication/media during the mid- and late- twentieth century than “popular culture.” Professor Hay will propose that “popular culture” increasingly has become a useless way of thinking about the current mediascape, even as the term’s legacy and residual uptake provides a useful way of understanding emergent the political and economic dimensions of media cultures.
