- Betty Churcher was born in Brisbane and began studying art as a student at Somerville House. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London, and holds an MA from the Courtauld Institute of Art. She was Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia from 1987 to 1990 and Director of the National Gallery of Australia from 1990 to 1997. She is the author of several acclaimed books, including Understanding art, Molvig: the lost antipodean, The art of war, and most recently, Notebooks. Betty has also been an art critic for the Australian and has written and presented several television series on art, including Take five and Hidden treasures. She holds an Order of Australia and is an Officer of the Order of Australia.
Betty will discuss her new book and her career in conversation with Keith Webster, University Librarian and Director of Learning Services from 2.00-3.00pm on Monday 12 September 2011. This event is being held in association with the Brisbane Writers Festival.
The event will be held in the Auditorium, Level 2, Sir Llew Edwards Building (Building 14), St Lucia Campus. All welcome.
