Event Description

Full Description:
Secondary teachers and scientific assistants are invited to a Microbiology workshop where the presenter, with the assistance of experienced tutors, will work through some simple experimental protocols which can be used to awaken secondary students’ interest in the wonderful world of microbes.

The aim is to show secondary school teachers and scientific assistants some possible activities for their classrooms, which can be both simple in design and in materials but effective in involving students in Microbiology.

Participants will be shown basic techniques such as streak dilution plating, performing a viable count and Gram and other staining procedures in the context of solving some simple problems.

A workbook will be provided which will contain protocols for the procedures covered.
