| Description: |
Join artist Judy Watson in conversation with Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg.
Acclaimed artist Judy Watson visited Heron Island in February 2009 as artist-in-residence at The University of Queenslands Research Station. Her residency coincided with the official launch of the Research Station, rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 2007. Scientists speaking during her visit gave Watson an insight into how such remote and apparently pristine marine environments are showing signs of pollution and temperature changes linked to global warming. Her experiences resonate in a range of works in this exhibition, including sculpture and paintings, prints and drawings, sound and video. Curated by Michele Helmrich.
Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg is Smart State Premiers Fellow (2008-2013), and is Director, Global Change Institute at The University of Queensland. He is teaching and instigated the highly successful Australia program at Stanford University, as well as playing roles as Reviewing Editor at Science Magazine, and as Deputy Director of the ARC Centre for Excellence in Coral Reef Studies. He is also passionate about communicating science, and has been involved in dozens of documentaries profiling beauty of coral reefs, and their fragility when it comes to climate change. Ove was recently profiled on the ABCs Australian story www.abc.net.au/austory/specials/ove/default.htm
Free. All welcome.
Exhibition continues until 22 November 2009.
