Event Description

Full Description:
Dutch Journalist Joris Luyendijk, a featured author at the 2009 Brisbane Writers Festival, will join industry contemporaries and academics from the School of Journalism and Communication to explore something we all experience regularly - the news.

The panel will explore the filtering of news, why it happens and whether the right to know should be regarded as an inalienable right that should not be subject to filter or change.

The evening will be of particular interest to anyone who is interested in the workings of the media and how reality becomes reportage. As well as Joris Luyendijk, the panel will include John Birmingham author and resident Blogger at Brisbanetimes.com, Dr John Harrison Lecturer in Communication and Public Relations at UQ and Mr Anthony Frangi, who is an Industry Consultant and Program Direction Team Leader for the Bachelor of Journalism at UQ.

This free event is being jointly hosted by the School of Journalism and the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
