Event Description

Full Description:
Please note: Alan Clements' tour to Brisbane has been cancelled

A free event to raise awareness of human rights and peaceful efforts for freedom, and the imprisonment of Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace Laureate and leader of the Burmese democracy movement.

Alan Clements is an incredible speaker, author and performer,
www.AlanClements.com
His interviews with Aung San Suu Kyi and speaking tours around the world demonstrate with startling clarity and even humour, how hope can be turned into action through strength and compassion, how freedom can be reached through non-violent struggle.

We are really fortunate to welcome Alan to UQ for his only Brisbane appearance.

Alan Clements has been interviewed many times by media including the ABC, BBC New York Times, London Times, Time and Newsweek magazines, and has also made presentations to the Soros Foundation and Mikhail Gorbachev's State of the World Forum, and delivered a keynote speech for Amnesty International’s 30th year anniversary.

Quotes: 'Everyday Revolution' - Freedom is our birthright, but enjoying our own personal freedom is not enough. Just as love is an action, and not just a state of mind, so too is freedom an action. Aung San Suu Kyi's injunction to 'use your liberty' essentially means committing oneself to everyday revolution- spontaneous acts of liberating authenticity that serve our own happiness as well as elevate the happiness and freedom of others.
