Event Description

Full Description:
The war on cancer was declared in 1971 by Richard Nixon. Since then, there has been considerable debate as to whether 'The War' has produced results or not. Regardless of one's viewpoint, there have been considerable advances in our knowledge of how cancers form and these advances are now being translated into improved outcomes for patients. Dr Saunders believes that we are on the cusp of a surge in improvements in the treatment of cancers.

During this presentation he will briefly describe some of the recent advances that have lead to improved patient outcomes. In addition, he will describe how researchers at the Diamantina Institute have gone about identifying novel targets in skin and bone cancers that may prove to be viable therapeutic targets.
