Event Description
- Full Description:
- Lecture by Professor Gary D Bouma
Australia like other societies has a particular way of being religious and spiritual – laid-back, low temperature, wary of organisations, and light on. Several factors are at work to change this way of being – diversity, revitalisation, cultural change and the changing social location of religion. Religious groups respond in various ways from withdrawal to the comfortable margins to active engagement. All of this sets the backdrop for the return of religion to the public domain and social policy.
Professor Gary Bouma is the author of a wonderful and thought-provoking new book Australian Soul: Religion and Spirituality in the 21st Century. He will be delivering a special lecture at the University of Queensland on Wednesday 2nd May, 2.00pm-3.30pm, Social Sciences Building (24) Room S402.
Professor Gary Bouma is Professor of Sociology at Monash University and the UNESCO Chair in Interreligious and Intercultural Relations – Asia Pacific.
