- Full Description:
- Hi everyone,
The Centre for Marine Sciences is happy to announce the 1st marine postgraduate student seminar of the semester, which is scheduled for this coming Thursday 15th August, at 1pm, in Goddard (8) room 257.
Please join us for two exciting talks from Alejandra Lopez Galan and Erin Watson.
Alejandra is a PhD candidate in the Sensory Neurobiology Group and will discuss “The unknown brain of a cuttlefish - What can we learn from cuttlefish brain and behaviour?”
By analysing the reproductive behaviour and changes in body patterning of the cuttlefish Sepia plangon, they have elaborated a map of the neural connections within the cuttlefish brain to discover the potential mechanisms regulating cuttlefish body patterning.
Erin is a recent Honours graduate from the Visual Ecology Lab; she will talk about “How colour pattern characteristics influence the detection of objects by a coral reef fish”
Her study looked at how different colour pattern elements within antipredator colouration, influence the detectability of potential prey items, using behavioural experiments with Triggerfish, Rhinecanthus aculeatus.
Please see our website'https://marine.uq.edu.au/content/seminar-series' or our Facebook page 'UQ Marine' for further information.
We hope to see you there!
Cheers,
The Centre for Marine Sciences
