Event Description

Full Description:
You’re invited to attend a half-day symposium hosted by the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation (AusHSI) and The University of Queensland’s Centre for the Business and Economics of Health (CBEH).

This Joint AusHSI-CBEH symposium will present research evidence on inefficiency in the use of health care resources in the form of low value care and opportunities for improving efficiency through improvements in resource use. Examples of innovations in service delivery will be presented using case studies from orthopaedics, cardiology and treatments at the end of life. However innovations in service delivery need to be matched with understanding the utilisation of services among populations and innovations in managing and planning health care resources in order to promote improved utilisation and achieve the potential efficiencies.

Managers and providers continue to be puzzled by the paradox of “more efficient health care” leading to more costly health care. Further presentations will examine the challenges presented by system-level factors to promoting, implementing and benefiting from innovations in health care services and opportunities to address those factors.
