- Professor Homer is the inaugural Christopher Chen Chair in Reproductive Medicine at The University of Queensland. He undertook clinical training in the UK and is dually accredited as a Specialist in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine & Surgery. He received his PhD is 2009 on mammalian oocyte regulation from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK). Hayden was the consultant lead for NHS IVF and Recurrent Miscarriage at University College London Hospitals until December 2013. He relocated to Sydney in January 2014 before moving to Brisbane in January 2016. Hayden set up and heads the Christopher Chen Oocyte Biology Research Laboratory at UQ Centre for Clinical Research, the first of its kind in Queensland. Alongside research, he undertakes clinical work at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and with the Queensland Fertility Group. Hayden is one of only a very few practicing fertility specialists in the world who conducts basic science research within the niche area of mammalian oocyte biology, including on the rarest of biological materials, human oocytes. His research is funded by three NHMRC grants and focuses on defining the key molecular determinants of mammalian oocyte quality and translating this knowledge into technologies for protecting oocytes during ageing and cancer treatment. Hayden was also the first to apply powerful NanoString technology to measure.
