Event Description

Full Description:
Please join a panel of Australia’s leading artists, curators and writers – Brenda L. Croft, Vernon Ah Kee, and Michael Aird – to discuss art and politics in the context of the UQ Art Museum’s exhibition Over the Fence: Contemporary Indigenous photography from the Corrigan Collection. Mervyn Bishop’s photograph Prime Minister Gough Whitlam pours soil into the hands of traditional land owner Vincent Lingiari, Northern Territory 1975 1975 (included in the exhibition) provides a starting point for a broad-ranging discussion about the injustices and political responses that press upon current politics and art. The panel is convened by Associate Professor Sally Butler from UQ’s School of Communication and Arts.
