Event Description

Full Description:
Please join Max Delany and Julie Ewington in a conversation about the work and practice of artist Pat Brassington. Curated by Juliana Engberg, the exhibition 'Pat Brassington: À Rebours' is a major survey of one of Australia’s most important and influential photo-based artists.

The first extensive gathering of Pat Brassington’s 30 years of practice, the exhibition explores her ongoing aesthetic language derived from surrealism and cinema reinterpreted through photography. Brassington was one of the first artists to recognise the potential of the digital format, and has used it to create an enormous body of work – images that are hauntingly beautiful, deeply psychological, and sometimes disturbing.

The exhibition continues until 10 April. Find out more http://www.artmuseum.uq.edu.au

Max Delany is the Artistic Director of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and former Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Victoria (2012–2016), and Director at Monash University Museum of Art (2004–2012). Since 2011 Max has also held the position of adjunct Associate Professor, Curatorial Practice, in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, Monash University.

Julie Ewington is an independent writer, curator and broadcaster living in Sydney. A contemporary art specialist, from 1997–2014 she worked at the Queensland Art Gallery|Gallery of Modern Art.
