Event Description
- Full Description:
- Social development through sport has a long history, but the current incarnation of the sport-for-development movement has grown at a phenomenal rate. An issue is that for all of its growth, the field is still considered to be troublingly under-funded, uncoordinated and unregulated. Despite these issues, sport-for-all remains firmly on the policy agenda in Australia due to our diverse cultural and social make up.
This presentation considers the field of sport-for-development, some initiatives regarding sport-for-all promoted in Australia, and a specific example of sport programs aimed at engaging Indigenous Australians in surfing.
Dr Steven Rynne is a Lecturer with the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences at The University of Queensland.
Steven has worked and conducted research with the Queensland Academy of Sport, Australian Institute of Sport / Australian Sports Commission and Cricket Australia in the areas of high performance coach learning and Indigenous sport. Steven teaches graduate students, is a registered HPE teacher and coaches track cyclists.
