Event Description
- Full Description:
- The University of Queensland is delighted to host Dr Marianne Foley as the 2015 Seymour Whyte Visiting Scholar for Women in Civil Engineering.
Dr Foley will deliver a public lecture on Making a Difference to help industry to better understand challenges and opportunities associated with attracting and retaining women in the engineering profession.
Dr Foley’s lecture will address how choosing Civil Engineering as a profession is an opportunity for female engineers to make a difference to the world in which we live. She will also articulate her views on how industry and the academic community can support and encourage women as they embark on a career in Civil engineering.
This free event is open to all members of industry, engineering students across all disciplines and interested patrons, and promises to be a valuable networking opportunity.
Refreshments to follow lecture.
Engineering offers exceptional futures for young women that enrich the lives of our local and global community. From the established civil, electrical, mechanical and chemical areas, to the developing environmental and biomedical fields, each discipline leads to diverse and challenging career opportunities around the world.
Today, The University of Queensland (UQ) is the leading choice for women studying engineering in Queensland, with 38% of the State’s total enrolled female engineering students studying with us.
The Seymour Whyte Lecture for Women in Civil Engineering showcases what careers for women in engineering and construction can offer. The lecture aims to help industry to better understand challenges and opportunities associated with women in engineering by challenging the status quo.
The program has been generously supported by Seymour Whyte and the Peta Seymour Foundation. See below link to register.
