Event Description
- Full Description:
- Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in Australia and many can be prevented and managed through improved dietary behaviour. Dietary behaviours among Australian adults are less than ideal with fewer than 7% consuming sufficient serves of vegetables and, on average, over one third of overall dietary energy intake is provided by ‘discretionary’ foods with little nutritional value. Despite the clear link between diet and chronic disease and the evidence of poor dietary behaviours in the population, many health professionals often report a lack of knowledge, time and confidence to provide nutrition care to their patients.
This seminar will present data from patients about their experiences receiving nutrition care from different health professionals and will explore how these patient experiences can be used to inform better nutrition care practices. Strategies to enhance the capacity of health professionals to provide nutrition care will also be discussed.
Presenter: Dr Michael Leveritt is an accredited practicing dietitian and Senior Lecturer and researcher in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences.
