- The TC Beirne School of Law at the University of Queensland, together with the Centre for Public, International and Comparative Law, is proud to host the conference Judicial Independence in Australia: Contemporary Challenges, Future Directions to be held at the University of Queensland on 10-11 July 2015. The conference is sponsored by the Magna Carta Committee of the Rule of Law Institute of Australia.
Judicial Independence in Australia: Contemporary Challenges, Future Directions will feature a keynote address by former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, Sir Anthony Mason AC KBE QC. Papers will also be delivered by some of Australia’s leading public law scholars, including: The Hon Justice Martin Daubney, Professor John Williams, Professor George Williams AO, Professor Suri Ratnapala, Professor HP Lee, Professor Brian Opeskin, Professor Fiona Wheeler, Professor Heather Douglas, Professor James Allan, Professor Andrew Lynch, Professor Rosalind Dixon, Associate Professor Jonathan Crowe, Associate Professor James Stellios, Dr Patrick Emerton, Associate Professor Gabrielle Appleby and Dr Rebecca Ananian-Welsh.
The conference will bring together leading scholars and members of the profession to discuss the nature and importance of judicial independence in Australia, and to debate controversies and challenges to the principle at federal, state and territory levels.
