Event Description

Full Description:
Simon Robinson from the department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy, Medical University of Vienna, Austria will present a talk entitled 'fMRI at 7T: technical challenges and clinical applications'

Neuroscientists expect an improvement in BOLD sensitivity from the move to ultra-high field fMRI, but predictions about the signal-to-noise improvement which can truly be realised have varied hugely over the past decade. In this talk I will detail the improvement in BOLD sensitivity we have measured at 7T compared to 3T in clinical fMRI with motor and speech studies. I will also show the reconstruction and Nyquist ghost artefacts which can be encountered at ultra-high field, particularly in more ventral brains regions, and some of the approaches we have found most useful in addressing them. Finally I will conclude with a look at the methods we expect to provide faster, more reliable and more accurate 7 T fMRI in the coming years.
