Event Description

Full Description:
The Sustainable Minerals Institute is hosting a workshop this week by Helen Steel, Executive Director of the Shared Value Project, Bruce Harvey, Director of Revolution88 Pty Ltd and Adjunct Professor at CSRM, and Dr Daniel Franks, Senior Research Fellow at CSRM.

In the newly released FSG research report “Extracting with Purpose”, it was found that there is a clear business imperative for extractives companies to improve societal outcomes. Shared Value establishes a framework for identifying opportunities to address societal issues and deliver real business value. This workshop event will explore the topic of creating shared value in the oil and gas and mining sector, and use local examples of how the industry is connecting with the community. Targeted at extractives industry professionals, this is an opportunity to discuss local case studies and engage with industry experts.
Helen was appointed Executive Director of the Shared Value Project in February 2014 to drive the adoption and implementation of shared value strategies among leading companies in Australia. She brings 20 years of international experience and leadership across government, corporate and not-for-profit sectors to the role.
Bruce’s career has spanned 38 years of worldwide field experience in the mining industry. Bruce has been at the forefront of developing community and social performance as a new professional discipline in the extractive sector. As well as his role as an Adjunct Professor at the SMI, Bruce is currently the Principal of a boutique consultancy, resolution88 Pty Ltd, specialising in ‘Social Licence’ solutions for the extractive sector.
Dr Daniel Franks is Deputy Director of Strategy and Mineral Policy at the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM). His research interests lie across the sustainability of the extractive resource industries with a particular focus on the social and environmental change associated with mining and energy developments.
