Event Description
- Full Description:
- The University of Queensland welcomes our new students and encourages you to take advantage of all that is offered through UQ’s vibrant and rewarding community of students and academic and professional staff.
The Welcome for New Students is an event for all commencing domestic and international students (including Study Abroad and Exchange Students) who are new to Brisbane to help you Live, Learn, Work, Play and get to know the city like a local!
Exhibition stalls will be open from 10.00am – 1.00pm in the UQ Centre Exhibition Hall (Building 27A), and we invite you to stop by throughout the day to learn more about the services offered at UQ, to participate in some fun activities as well as sign up for others. Here you will have the opportunity to chat to staff members from around the university and to meet some of our experienced Student Leaders who can answer any questions you might have about settling into life at UQ.
Getting Started sessions will be running throughout the day in the UQ Centre Lecture Theatre (Building 27A) and will feature a special welcome from Senior University staff members. These sessions cover topics such as:
• Settling in – Getting to know Brisbane including maps, key locations etc
• How to enrol using mySI-net
• How and when to get Student ID cards
• Transport in Brisbane (and to campus) – how to get a Go Card, where to use it
• Getting around campus – key buildings and locations, maps, UQ Nav etc.
• Safety on Campus and UQ Security
• Services available to students – Student Services, Student Centre, SHOC etc
• Where to eat on campus
• What to do if you have questions/concerns/complaints
• How to get involved in campus life, join clubs, meet new people
• Introduction to Mates@UQ and Connect U Mentors
Attendance at a Getting Started session is highly recommended for all students and compulsory for international students. Please note that it is not necessary to attend one of these sessions if you have already attended a Getting Started session prior to Orientation Week.
