Event Description

Full Description:
Dr Nenad Djordjevic is presenting a seminar on 'In-Situ Recovery of Minerals'. The profitability of mines is driven by ore grade quality and the cost to extract and process the ore. Many deposits are covered by thick layers of waste rock, sometimes more than a thousand metres thick. Recovering this ore is expensive and brings with it potential long-term environmental liabilities. Researchers at JKMRC are addressing this challenge through the In-Situ Recovery of Minerals project. Emerging technology from this project will enable metals from underground deposits to be recovered economically without scarring the Earth's surface. This project is part of SMI's NextMine initiative. Dr Djordjevic is the Principal Research Fellow at JKMRC. He has worked in applied research and consulting in the fields of rock mechanics, mining engineering and mineral processing for many years. He has a number of patents on his technical outcomes and has been published widely.
