Event Description

Full Description:
Don’t miss this unique event, which is set to become Australia’s premier winter cereals research field day. The day is a GRDC event and hosted by three organisations: CSIRO, QAAFI and QDAFF. The day is designed to provide a “hands-on” field experience for those interested in the latest science applied to two of Australia’s most important grain crops; wheat and barley.

Whether you are an agronomist, a scientist, a breeder, a journalist, representing a funding body, a government representative or just simply interested in science or agriculture, the day will have something for you.

The action-packed day will provide a great taste of research that is currently being conducted in Queensland, as you will move from location to location, where field experiments are currently under way. The day is divided into three themes: “Wheat abiotic stress”, “Yield potential and phenomics” and “Disease resistance”. All presentations will be set in the field and will provide activities or demonstrations.

An “elevator pitch” session comprising a series of three-minute talks will provide some entertainment while lunch is served, where you will hear from some of the rising young scientists in these fields.

Please register:
This is a free event. To ensure adequate catering, please notify the event organisers and register before 24 September by contacting the organisers below:

Dr Lee Hickey – 0408 210 286 or l.hickey@uq.edu.au
Dr Fernanda Dreccer – 0408 885 137 or Fernanda.dreccer@csiro.au

Getting there:
There is a complimentary bus from St Lucia UQ campus to Gatton, departing 7.30 am sharp from the corner of Glasshouse Road and Services Road. However the number of seats available on the bus is strictly limited. To attend the event or to confirm a place on the free bus, you must register with event organisers. The bus will depart Gatton at 5.00 pm and return to St Lucia about 6.15 pm.

If you prefer to make your own travel arrangements, please meet us at the Gatton McDonalds rear carpark (Warrego Hwy) at 8.30am. This is also a good opportunity for you to coffee up! Everyone will then follow the guides to Gilbert paddock to kick of the first session.

What to bring:
We will provide lunch and afternoon tea. The whole day is set in the field so please bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle.
