Event Description

Full Description:
Australia is renowned for having some of the most dangerous animals in the world, some of which are very common. These include the brown snake and redback spider, which each have a highly toxic venom.

How do these venoms evolve? Perhaps more importantly, can they be used today to help save lives?

Associate Professor Bryan Fry is attempting to answer these questions. Associate Professor Fry leads the Venom Evolution Lab within the School of Biological Sciences at UQ. Using a multidisciplinary approach, his team unravels the biodiversity of animal toxins, and provides invaluable information for medical drug design. Join us for this WISH seminar to see brown snakes and redback spiders in a new light.

Light snacks will be provided afterwards.
