Event Description
- Full Description:
- Professor Dieudonne Musibon is presenting a seminar on 'Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC): Impressive mineral reserves but sustainable poverty - the Congolese paradox'.
The DRC has one of the world's largest stocks of natural resources - water, fertile agricultural land, biodiversity, mineral resources and energy potential. Why then has the DRC been ranked as the world's poorest country since 2011?
Based on his field work, Professor Musibon's presentation focuses on the paradox between huge minerals reserves and extreme poverty for local communities. He analyses the main causes of the paradox and tries to suggest ways forward.
Professor Musibon is Head of the Department of Environment and the University of Kinshasa, DRC. He is at SMI to develop two new course syllabi for the university as part of an IM4DC Distinguished Fellowship.
