Event Description
- Full Description:
- Transit oriented development (TOD) is a policy development strategy being pursued in Australia and world-wide with the aim of reducing car-based travel. It is characterised by moderate to high density, diverse land uses, well-connected street networks, centred around high frequency public transport stops. Research has relied on limited data to evaluate the effectiveness of TOD, and little work has been done on the impact of this urban form. This talk will provide an overview of the challenges associated with TOD in the Brisbane context.
Dr Douglas Baker is Professor and Head of Property and Planning in the School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. Dr Baker’s areas of expertise include land use planning, performance-based measurement, and airport management, and regional governance. He has worked in the public and private sectors, and prior coming to Australia he was Acting Head of School of Environmental Planning at the University of Northern British Columbia.
