Event Description

Full Description:
Around 10% of learners have print disabilities ranging from dyslexia to visual impairment or difficulties handling hard copy print. E-Assessment should offer new opportunities for disabled learners to compete on a level playing field but too often weaknesses in assessment design or delivery result in needless barriers. Using a range of examples from formal to informal assessment this session will explore some of the key facets of accessible assessment, how awarding bodies in the UK are working with advocacy groups to tackle the issues as well as the particular issues of making maths and science notation accessible.

Audience interaction is encouraged to make it a lively session.

Presenters:
Abi James – Chair British Dyslexia Association, consultant Assistive Learning, UK
Alistair McNaught – Senior advisor, Jisc TechDis, UK
Paul Nisbet - Senior Research Fellow and Joint Coordinator of CALL Scotland.

Hosted by:
Professor Geoffrey Crisp (RMIT University, Australia) and
Dr Mathew Hillier (Teaching and Educational Development Institute, University of Queensland, Australia).
