Cihan studied Computer Science at Technical University Ilmenau in Germany from where he received a Diplom-Informatiker degree (eq. M.Sc.) in 2007. He specialized in the fields of Computer Graphics and Visualization and spent six months at VisLab (The University of Queensland, Australia) where he worked as an intern researching on distributed visualization techniques. His diploma thesis elaborates on possibilities to efficiently integrate stereoscopic and autostereoscopic display technologies in interactive audiovisual applications utilizing the capabilities of current graphics processors. Cihan worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology in Ilmenau (Germany) as a researcher in the field of interactive audiovisual applications for two years.

He is now employed as a programmer at the Earth Systems Science Computational Centre (ESSCC) in Brisbane, Australia where he helps visualize scientific data efficiently.
