The Student Charters

The Student Charter provides a guide for students in their dealings with fellow students, staff and other university community members. The Charter sets out what students can expect while at University in terms of reasonable conduct, and the responsibilities of students to help ensure that all students and staff can work and study in an equitable environment, free of discrimination and harassment: https://ppl.app.uq.edu.au/content/3.60.01-student-charter

The Research Higher Degree Candidate Charter explains University research and research training policy and is designed to provide a set of principles and statements of good practice with respect to matters such as supervision, infrastructure support, monitoring of progress and examinations. It sets out student expectations in relation to higher degree research training and the corresponding approach the University expects of research students: https://ppl.app.uq.edu.au/content/4.60.02-research-higher-degree-candidate-charter

Promoting an Equitable Environment

As a student there are many ways you can help promote an equitable and fair environment where everyone feels valued and where discrimination and harassment are not welcome. You can:

» Treat all others with respect.
» Value and celebrate difference. Not all people think and feel the same as you. Be mindful of cultural differences.
» Take a proactive role and promote discussion about equity and social justice issues.
» Speak out if you witness unfair treatment of others and don't condone harassing behaviours.
» Be inclusive of all others.
» Take care to not to tell jokes or make comments that may offend others, particularly in regard to race, cultural background, religion, sexuality and gender identity.
» Respect the rights of others to say no.
