The University of Queensland Enterprise Agreement

This agreement has a range of equity and diversity matters including changes to leave entitlements, statements on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment, 'continuing' employment, pre-retirement arrangements and workloads, for example.
UQ Policies
The following University Codes, Policies, Procedures and Guidelines relate to equity and diversity:
The Equity and Diversity policy and guidelines provides an overarching statement of the University of Queensland's commitment to equity and diversity for staff, students and the wider community and outlines internal structures and key aspects of operations where this is to be considered.
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to guide and enhance the conduct of staff in performing their duties in the collegial environment of the University. Ethical obligations include respect for the law and system of University Governance, respect for persons, integrity, diligence and economy and efficiency.
The Student Charter and the Research Higher Degree Candidate Charter define the expectations and responsibilities of both students and the University.
The Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment policy and procedures outlines the University's commitment to ensuring that staff, students and visitors are not subjected to behaviours, practices or processes that may constitute discrimination, harassment, vilification, or victimisation.
The Prevention of Sexual Harassment policy and guidelines define what constitutes sexual harassment, outlines measures to prevent sexual harassment and provides links to the staff and student grievance resolution policies and procedures, for the resolution of sexual harassment complaints.
The Prevention of Racism policy states 'racism and its manifestations, including racial prejudice or vilification on the basis of race or ethnicity constitute unacceptable behaviour at The University of Queensland'.
The policy on Student Grievance Resolution outlines the University's committment to providing an effective complaints management system based on best practice. The policy and procedures reflect practically and philosophically, the expectations and responsibilities of both the University and its students when dealing with grievances or appeals.
The purpose of the Staff Grievance Resolution policy is to provide University staff with the opportunity to resolve a grievance concerning decisions that adversely affect them or other matters about which they are aggrieved in their capacity as employees of the University.
The University's Acceptable Use of UQ ICT Resources - Policy states that users of University ICT resources must be aware that use of these resources is subject to the full range of Australian laws as well as any other relevant University policies and statutes. This includes (but is not limited to) areas such as copyright, breach of confidence, defamation, privacy, contempt of court, bullying and cyber-bullying, harassment, vilification, anti-discrimination, wilful damage and computer hacking.
The University's commitment to the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Policy
'will directly contribute to the development and maintenance of the University as a place for diversity that will attract and retain Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, increase the pool of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates for employment across all areas of the University, and ensure the recognition and further development of the abilities and skills of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.'
The University Disability Policy applies to both staff and students and 'supports the right of people with disabilities to work and study on an equitable basis with other members of the University community'. There are procedures on the
- alternative academic arrangements for students with a disability and
- arrangements for reasonable adjustment in examinations.
The UQ Disability Action Plan 2011-2014 provides Faculties, Institutes, Divisions, and Administrative Units a framework within which to formulate actions to address strategic goals and develop measures of progress. Strategies are outlined in the areas of teaching and learning, people management, environment and engagement.
The Recruitment and Selection Policy affirms equitable application of the merit principle throughout recruitment and selection processes.
