New Horizons is a comprehensive career advancement program for women staff at HEW levels 1 to 7 (including research-only) delivered over approximately six months.

The program is challenging and participants will be required to follow up on workshop tasks in their personal time (for example, workbook completion, reading materials) to ensure successful progress and completion.

Objectives

New Horizons will assist with

  • identification of a personal vision and the development of career goals and strategies to achieve this;
  • analysis of personal skills and competencies (skills audit);
  • updating and sharpening your resumé /CV;
  • interview skills;
  • clarifying work and non-work priorities and targeting actions to improve outcomes; and
  • building self esteem, assertiveness and confidence.
  • Workshops are facilitated by an external consultant who has extensive experience delivering career advancement programs for women throughout Australia.

Eligibility

Women staff at levels HEW 1-7 (including research-only general staff) who have the written support of their supervisor are eligible to apply. Women

  • from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds;
  • from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;
  • with a disability;

are encouraged to apply and will be given priority.

Course Requirements

In addition to attending the workshops, participants are required to complete workbook exercies and update their resumé/cv. 

Duration

The program consists of six half-day workshops held typically held over 6 months. All sessions will be held at St Lucia campus. To receive a certificate and succesfully complete the program, participants must attend the first and last workshops, and miss no more than two of the other workshops.

Cost

The program is funded by the University Staff Development Committee (USDC) and is therefore provided free of charge to participants and Schools/administrative areas.
