The University has acquired EO Online, an interactive equity and diversity training program for the use of staff and students.
The
ALLY Program is a joint initiative of the University and the UQ Union. An Ally provides a 'safe zone' for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students and staff. An official Ally will display an 'Ally' sign in their work area. Their visible presence assists in combating heterosexism and homophobia.
The UQ Senate Standing Committee for Equity, Diversity and the Status of Women supports a number of schemes for the advancement of women. The Equity Office coordinates:
Edna is a program for women staff who wish to receive
short-term (even ‘one-off’) guidance and assistance for a specific issue related to their career advancement from a more experienced staff member.
The program is named in honour of Emeritus Professor Edna Chamberlain who was the first woman appointed as professor in the field of social work in Australia. She was Head of the Department at UQ from 1973 to 1983, and Dean of the Faculty from July 1975 to August 1976, and again from January 1983 until June 1986. Emeritus Professor Chamberlain's contribution to social work, education, and community service was recognised by the awards of Member of the Order of Australia in 1988, and Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa, The University of Queensland, in 1995.
It is fitting that a program dedicated to the advancement of women be given her name.
