The University of Queensland supports and acknowledges White Ribbon Day. White Ribbon Day, formally referred to as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women as declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, is a day for showing solidarity and support to those who experience violence and a commitment to preventing and removing violence against women.
There are a number of ways that you can show your support to White Ribbon Day. You can donate to the White Ribbon organisation, purchase and wear a white ribbon or a white wrist band to show your support and commitment to the prevention of violence against women. More information about how you can get involved is here: http://www.whiteribbon.org.au/.
The University of Queensland supports the principle that domestic violence is unacceptable at home and in the workplace and is committed to providing a safe work environment for all staff, which is free from fear and abuse.
The University of Queensland recognises that domestic violence may have an impact beyond an individual’s personal life, and may affect an individual both directly and indirectly in the workplace over a prolonged period of time and offers support to staff affected by situations of domestic violence. More information about the support available can be found in the Domestic Violence and the Workplace: Support Options Available for Staff guidelines.
