Workplace Diversity and Inclusion would like to invite all UQ staff and students to a guest presentation by Julie McKay to celebrate International Women's Day this year on Wednesday 15th March, 10:30am.

Julie McKay profileJulie McKay is UQ Alumni and was the Executive Director of UN Women Australia for nearly 10 years working to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment globally.  In recent years, she has also served as the Gender Advisor to the Chief of the Australian Defence Force, working to support the cultural change program within the ADF.

 In addition to her roles with UN Women and Defence, Julie runs a private consulting business working with companies including PwC, Autopia, the QLD Public Service, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Aurizon.

Julie convenes the QLD Male Champions of Change, working with 12 leading QLD based CEOs to advance gender equality within their organisations, which are mostly male dominated industries.  Julie is Chair of the Women’s College Council of the University of Sydney had has held numerous board positions in the not-for-profit sector.  She sits on the PwC Diversity Advisory Board and the Defence Gender Equality Advisory Board.  Julie holds a Masters in Public Policy from ANU, an Executive MBA from the University of Sydney and recently completed a Churchill Fellowship in the area of women’s leadership.

Julie was the 2013 Young Australian of the Year (ACT), 2012 Young Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year (ACT) and has been recently recognised by Women and Leadership Australia with a National Award for Excellence in Women’s Leadership.

The theme for International Women’s Day for 2017 is “be bold for change” and Julie will challenge us to be bold and share her insights and experiences on how to create change. 

Professor Robyn Ward, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Chair of the UQ Self-Assessment Team for the SAGE Pilot of Athena SWAN program will introduce Julie.
