Scholarships

Social/Support/Counselling

The UQ (Student) Union Welfare and Gender & Sexuality Advocate provides confidential counselling and organises events and campaigns for the purpose of educating and advocating on issues affecting women and LGBT/I students, as well as gender, sexuality and sexual health matters of more general relevance. The UQ Union Queer Sexuality Collective provides queer meeting spaces in the Union Building (Union Building 21A - up the stairs near the microwaves, St Lucia Campus) and the Rainbow Room (Gatton Campus, upstairs in Morrison Hall) for LGBTIQ people. The Rainbow Room is open 10.30-3.pm on Wednesdays. There are also two elected Student Office Bearers in the UQ (Student) Union - phone: 3377 2200

The Rainbow Service, Relationships Australia provides a relationship counselling service for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities. Call 1300 364 277 to book a session asking for 'The Rainbow Service'. On this number information can also be obtained about where

  • evening groups tailored specifically for Lesbain, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender individuals and couples.

Sexual Health Services
N.B. Anyone who has engaged in high-risk (for HIV/Aids) behaviour in the last 72 hours is eligible in Queensland for Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). PEP is a course of combination anti-HIV drugs that may decrease the chance of becoming HIV positive. Action must be taken AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Brisbane Rape and Incest Survivors Support Centre Centre Against Sexual Violence: A service run by women for women. Provides information and support. Crisis Line: 3391 0004
Domestic Violence Telephone Service for Refuge Referral Ph: 1800 811 811

Sexual Assault Service 24 hour confidential medical service for women. Provides medical and forensic examination if requested, and crisis support. The service is for women who have been raped or sexually assaulted within the previous 2 weeks. Telephone counselling also available for women regarding recent or past abuse. Legal Services

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex (LGBTI) Legal Service Inc is a new community-based legal service providing free legal advice, assistance and referral to the LGBTI communities. The LGBTI Legal Service operates from space generously supplied by QAHC. The Service is non-profit and unfunded, staffed entirely by volunteers. The Service provides free and confidential one-to-one legal advice sessions where clients discuss their legal issues with a qualified lawyer.

  • Evening advice sessions every week on Wednesday from 6pm at 30 Helen Street, Teneriffe. (Clients arriving after 7:30pm will not be accepted).
  • No appointment is required as it is a drop-in service, and the sessions are usually 20 minutes in duration.

The AGMC Inc is a peak body for individuals/groups from a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer multicultural background. The AGMC Inc. encourages the participation and contribution of GLBTIQ from a Multicultural background within GLBTIQ and multicultural communities. It aims to promote, enable and disseminate knowledge on issues relevant to GLBTIQ multicultural individuals/groups through discussion, research, publishing and other means.
