Notes on the Concordances
|
|
In order for them to
operate effectively several adaptations are made to the base texts
before they are processed by the concordance software.
- All ampersands (&)
have been converted to the word "and".
- The characters æ
and Æ have been converted to ae and Ae respectively.
- As with all texts
on this site, the long s has been converted to its modern equivalent.
- Because the texts
are all HTML facsimiles, word spacing may interfere with concordance
searching. For example: the conjunction "in'th" may
appear in the text as in 'th and as in'th and as
in'th'. All three will be indexed separately.
- The concordance requires
as its base text a plain text document. Any italic or bold
text has been normalised.
- In general, title
pages are not included in the concordance.
- Any commendatory verses
will be included in a separate concordance so as not to disturb
the line numbering of the original poem or play.
