The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education is designed for university teachers and PhD students who seek to improve their educational practice. This program introduces major conceptual issues, research directions, and innovative practices associated with higher education. It challenges and extends notions of learning, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment of student performance, and evaluation of teaching and courses within the higher education context.Participants are required to complete the following four compulsory courses:
- EDUC6100 Designing Learning for Contemporary Higher Education Contexts (semester 1)
- EDUC6101 Designing Teaching and Assessment in Higher Education Contexts (semester 2)
- EDUC6102 Designing Educational Interventions (semester 1)
- EDUC6103 Educational Intervention in Higher Education Contexts (semester 2) The Graduate Certificate carries credit towards the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies and the Master of Educational Studies.
The program is supported by the UQ Staff Development Committee (USDC) which provides a half-bursary to UQ Staff (continuing or fixed-term whose contracts do not expire before the expected graduation term) to offset the full-fee. The other half of the fee is usually covered by the staff member’s school or faculty. The staff member's Head of School must approve an applicants request for admission before an application can be processed. Click here for the USDC application form which must be submitted with your Application for Postgraduate Coursework.
For Australian PhD students enrolled at UQ, participation in the program has been encouraged by the PVC(R&RT) and approval from the Graduate School is needed if the program is taken in conjunction with postgraduate research. Approval can be sought by completing a concurrent enrolment form which can be located at the Graduate School website. A HECS-HELP student contribution is applicable rather than paying full fees. You need to submit a HECS-HELP Commonwealth Assistance form (CAF) with your tax file number to a Student Centre by the semester census date.
