A variety of programs are offered at The University of Queensland for those embarking on a career in teaching and for those already teaching who are looking to undertake further studies in Education.

Postgraduate Coursework Programs

The Postgraduate Coursework Programs are concerned with education practice, scholarship and research, each with differing emphases.  The choice of program will depend on professional needs, interests and aspirations as well as on background qualifications and eligibility.   • Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies
    The Graduate Certificate gives professional educators a chance to reflect on practice in education, but also provides a social sciences course for such people as youth workers, therapists, childcare workers, criminal justice workers and parents.
    Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies
    The Graduate Diploma offers the opportunity for students to develop and extend professional expertise in the field of education on specialised educational topics.
  • Master of Educational Studies (2 plans available)
    The Master of Educational Studies (MEdSt) degree offers the opportunity for students to develop and extend professional expertise in the field of education on specialised educational topics.
  • Graduate Certificate in Higher Education
    The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education is designed for university and higher education teachers who seek to improve their educational practice.

Postgraduate Research Programs

The Postgraduate Research Program focuses on key areas of work within the school: language and literacy learning, adolescence and ‘at risk' youth, multiliteracies and new technologies, educational policy and social change, "productive pedagogies" and learning, curriculum reform and school leadership, culture and identity.

  • Bachelor of Education (Honours)
    The Honours program prepares students for independent scholarship through coursework and research leading to a written thesis.
  • Master of Philosophy
    The aim of the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programs is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates.
  • Doctor of Philosophy
    The aim of the PhD program is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates.
