The Jubilee Scholarship

The Economics Jubilee Scholarship was announced in 1997 as part of the School's 50th Anniversary celebrations, which also commemorated 85 years of teaching in economics at The University of Queensland.

The object of the Scholarship is to provide assistance to students who are Australian citizens enrolled in the Bachelor of Economics or BEcon Dual Program, who are seeking to enhance their study experience by studying economics at a UQ partner institution overseas for one semester.

The Scholarship will be awarded annually by the Head of School on the basis of the applicant's academic record and personal qualities to a student without prior opportunity to study at an overseas institution.

The holder of the Scholarship should not accept any other bursary, scholarship, award or employment without first obtaining the written consent of the Head of School.

The holder of the scholarship should, within 3 months of returning to The University of Queensland, submit to the Head of School a written report of approximately 1,500 words on his/her experience of overseas study and the benefits of the Scholarship, and may be required to address undergraduate economics students on his/her exchange experience.

The Scholarship is intended to cover one economy return airfare plus some living allowance, approximately AUD $1,000 per month (indexed).

Application Procedures

Intending applicants are welcome to consult with academic staff in economics initially but must consult with a Student Exchange Advisor in the UQ Abroad Office and supply evidence of acceptance from that office to participate in an exchange when available.

An application form should be completed and returned to the Head, School of Economics before 31 August 2011 for study commencing in semester one or two of the preceding year (even if above acceptance is not finalised). Candidates should also attach a curriculum vitae and two written references with their application.

At the discretion of the Selection Committee, candidates may be required to attend a short interview.
