| Welcome to the School of Economics.
The School of Economics undertakes world-class research across a range of fields including economic theory, econometrics and environmental economics. The School is consistently ranked in the top 5% of economics research institutions internationally, and is among the top handful in Australia. The School hosts three ARC Professorial Fellows and one ARC Federation Fellow, far more than any other Australian school or department of economics. Research undertaken by our academic staff is published in top international journals including Econometrica, Journal of Economic Theory, and Journal of Econometrics.
The ultimate measure of the School’s academic achievement is the success of its students. We are committed to providing high-quality teaching and an intellectually-challenging environment for our students. Our research accomplishments and teaching efforts are closely linked. In national surveys, the quality of teaching at UQ Economics is consistently ranked amongst the top of the Group of Eight universities.
The School of Economics has over 1,200 students, including international students from over 40 different countries. The School offers the largest range of undergraduate economics courses in Australia and an impressive diversity of masters programs.
Our PhD and Honours programs involve substantial one-to-one interactions between students and academic staff members. The outcome of such interaction is an outstanding group of highly-motivated and well-trained students who have successfully pursued careers in academia, government and the private sector.
