Dr O’Donnell is a theoretical and applied econometrician
with research interests in DEA, SFA and, to a lesser
extent, the theory and application of index numbers.
He specialises in the use of Bayesian methodology to
estimate distance functions and stochastic cost and
production frontiers. Recent and ongoing efficiency-
and productivity-related projects focus on the imposition
of inequality constraints (eg. curvature), accounting
for risk and uncertainty in frontier models, estimation
of variable returns-to-scale production frontiers, non-parametric
estimation, and the estimation of meta-frontiers. His
applied work is mainly confined to the agricultural,
agribusiness, banking and health industries. He is Editor
of the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource
Economics and Associate Editor of the Journal of Agricultural
and Food Industrial Organisation. He holds an Honorary
Fellowship at the University of New England (UNE).
