Biography

I completed a Bachelor of Science, majoring in zoology at the University of Adelaide in 2003. In 2004 I completed a B.Sc honours year in the field of urban ecology. Following on from this I worked for two years as a research and administrative assistant for BioCity: centre for urban ecology (now at UniSA), on a range of communication projects. In 2006 I participated in volunteer remote field work in Tsavo, Kenya, collecting data on mane-less lions which was a fantastic time, with a few (very) close encounters with all sorts of wildlife. Having then decided that I wanted to learn more new and varied skills I decided to look for a PhD. In 2007 I moved to the University of Queensland to begin a PhD in the field of eco-physiology in the Franklin lab and thus the learning curve that is lab work began!

Current Research
My scientific/biological interests are broad and generally encompass how individuals and/or systems fit together, operate, interact, and change, from the molecular level to whole animal performance. My current interests are on the strategies/processes employed by organisms in order to survive stressful environmental conditions. I’m also interested in learning how ‘flexible’ these strategies can be under different conditions and how such ‘flexibility’ is achieved.
