Organise an Event

Planning

Staff and students are encouraged to consider organising an activity, event or showcase relevant work. While you are encouraged to develop an activity that is inspired by this year's theme, it is not essential.

Coordinators need to start planning activities and events as early as possible.

This includes:

  • Generating some discussion with colleagues/students to come up with a suitable activity or event and gain support from the unit manager. For other ideas about possible activities, view previous years' events and activities
  • Booking the venue and make arrangements for publicity, catering etc. 
  • Register your event on the UQ Events page.
  • Discuss your ideas with any of the staff from The Equity Office. You will need to arrange your own publicity.

Process for registering events or activities:

  • Confirm the suitability of your event or activity with the Equity Office.
  • Enter details on the UQ Events page Add an Event - when adding your event information please ensure that you check the Diversity-Week box under 'event type' to ensure your event appears on this website.
  • Your entry will then appear in the 2010 'Diversity Week' listing on the UQ events site.

Please send through electronic copies of lecture notes, speeches, recorded lectures, photographs relevant to Diversity Week, to The Equity Office for possible inclusion on this website.

Activities

Here are some examples of activities you might consider:
  • Give students a special project or assignment related to diversity
  • Hold a debate or discussion
  • Carry out an Equity and Diversity Audit of your area - Audit Form
  • Share your overseas or local research experiences
  • Research and discuss the theme Our Global Community
  • Arrange a special lecture or lunchtime talk
  • Invite artists to display their work
  • Develop a poster (download a generic poster/flyer or a blank poster/flyer  to enter your own information - A3 or A4 docs)
