| Equity and Diversity Award runner-up, Associate Professor Polly Parker |
Congratulations to Associate Professor Polly Parker from the UQ Business School. Associate Professor Polly Parker received 2nd place in the 2012 Vice Chancellor's Equity and Diversity Awards for the Career Progression for Women program and for her work in women's leadership within the UQ Business School.
About the project
In 2008, Associate Professor Polly Parker was responsible for designing and delivering a program for women’s leadership within the UQ Business School Executive Education program. The program is designed to support women transition to more senior roles and has become one of the highest rated course in UQBS Corporate Education.
Assoc Prof Parker has transferred her knowledge gained from this experience into The University of Queensland’s Career Progression for Women program, designed to support the promotion of female academics from Level C to Level D. Her involvement in a range of initiatives for women in leadership in Australia and her election to the UQ Senate committee for Equity, Diversity and the Status of Women in 2012 as the academic representative reinforces Assoc Prof achievements in community engagement, teaching and research.
Assoc Prof Parker's engagement through this leadership training has supported many women to excel their career progression towards executive positions in business. Not only has she assisted to expand the career prospects for these women, but also strengthened UQ’s profile in the community.
Assoc Prof Parker's understanding and insights into systematic institutional discrimination, unconscious bias and barrier to women’s progression have contributed greatly to the development of this program.
Feedback of the program reinforces Assoc Prof Parker's outstanding contributions as a facilitator and role model. Many who participated said that they appreciated her understanding of the challenges for academic staff and how these challenges manifest for academic women.
