Diversity Week is an opportunity to celebrate the increasing diversity of the UQ community and to raise awareness of current issues that are impacting on the world’s diverse people, groups and communities.
The University of Queensland celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010; 100 years of contributing to the state, the nation and to the world through the contribution made by its graduates from across the globe.
Today's issues require innovative global approaches to meet contemporary challenges and respond to urgent matters of global helath, safety and the environment.
The University is committed to building its capacity to welcome any able student from around the world irrespective of their background and to graduate flexible, broad-thinking, culturally-aware individuals and future leaders of the 21st century.
The generous philanthropy of our alumni and community, whether through advocacy, service or financial contributions, has provided invaluable support to the University and its goals of helping solve local and global issues of scale and impact to diverse people, groups and communities.
Many UQ alumni have played a transformational role in making the world a better place and improving the lives and circumstances of people, particularly those who are disadvantaged, in almost every area imaginable; engineering, medicine and public health, agriculture, science, conflict resolution, environmental sustainability, education, social science and across the humanities.
The University and its graduates have much to be proud of.
The theme for 2011 Diversity Week was Advancing Diversity, which focused on these goals by recognising the people who are helping advance diversity every day, both within the UQ community and across the globe.
Diversity is a core part of UQ's identity. UQ’s staff team is made up of people from every conceivable background and culture. Our 43,000 students come from more than 134 countries, and our 180,000 alumni are spread across every corner of the planet.
Diversity Week 2011 invited The University of Queensland community to reach out to its alumni, to tap into the richness of their experience and knowledge, and to showcase and celebrate the contributions they have made in supporting diversity around the world.
