(Grant applications close on Thursday April 5)

Diversity Week 2012 has the theme UNITY IN DIVERSITY and aims to:

  • Celebrate the 10th anniversary of UQ Diversity Week.
  • Showcase what UQ is doing through its staff, students and alumni in making a positive difference to the lives of people across the globe.
  • Reflect upon how our identities are shaped, how this creates a sense of belonging with others of similar backgrounds but also, creates barriers between people of difference.
  • Consider how we create dialogue across boundaries to find unity of purpose, harnessing the strength of diversity of perspectives.
  • How diversity provides the incredible richness of our world and lives.

Faculties, Schools, Institutes, Centres, other organisational units, academic and general staff and students are encouraged to meaningfully and creatively engage with this significant event.

A total of $6,000 is available to support Diversity Week activities across the University. Diversity Week Activity Grants of up to $1,000 (but usually of much smaller amounts) are available to assist individuals and organisational units in running Diversity Week activities. They may be used to cover costs such as:

  • printing of flyers or posters
  • tea or coffee
  • payment of guest speaker or travel associated with the activity
  • room hire etc.

The UQ Diversity Week Activity Grants are not intended to cover all costs associated with an activity or event but are intended to support initiatives and activities that highlight the University’s commitment to diversity and promote the principles of equity and diversity during this week, particularly those which respond to the 2012 theme of UQ Diversity Week Unity in Diversity.
